Virtual Tour of Seneca and Northeast Kansas
  Schools.
All of us went to the Catholic-run Saint Perer and Paul grade school, located on Pioneer Street. See information on the school and the parish at the
Sts. Peter and Paul Church website. Especially see the detailed parish history.

On down 11th Street for a look for
Nemaha Valley High School.  For grade schoolers 1st through 8th, there is Seneca Public Grade School over on Nemaha Street, or a few blocks away

In the brick-paved business district of Main Street you'll find the Seneca Public Library located in the stone building of the old Universalist Church. The library includes excellent genealogical resources. See also information at the
Nemaha County Genealogical Society.

For an earlier view of Main Street....the quaint red-brick buildings and horse-drawn buckboards of early downtown Seneca are documented in this photo from the historical archives of Wichita State University. The Univeristy of Kansas also features archive photos of early Seneca. Also see the historical Seneca site created on the occasion of the 125th anniverary of the town's founding.

Going west on Main Street, you cross 11th Street onto the winding Community Drive and see the 18-hole golf course on your right! Continuing along Community Drive, off to your left is the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility replaced the old Seneca Hospital we all remember. Continuing along Community Drive, take a right at the highway and you return to Seneca through the highway business district.

Driving around the countryside, you will see many spires of classic turn-of-the-century style Catholic churches.
St. Mary's Church in St. Benedict, northwest of Seneca, has been extensively restored and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Although the area is primarily Catholic, other churches in Seneca include the United Methodist Church, the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Hope Baptist Church, and the Word of Life Church.

For a brief history of Seneca and a guide to all the town's modern-day features and attractions, see this
online guide to Seneca.   Also see their guide to Nemaha County, of which Seneca is the county seat.
